Bhai Dooj at SI

The festival of Bhai Dooj is celebrated by Hindus. It falls on second day after Diwali. This year it came on 28th October, 2011. Bhai Dooj makes us understand the importance of family and is especially dedicated to the sibling relationship. It also imbibes in us the feelings of caring and responsibility towards our near and dear ones. Same such feelings we have towards our surrogates. Dr Sudhir Ajja treats all the surrogates like his own sisters, which is one of the reasons that all our surrogates are emotionally bonded with him.

One of our surrogates celebrating bhai dooj with Dr Sudhir. She decorated the puja thali with sweets, kumkum, rice, diya and the most important of all, coconut. She applied tikka on his forehead and presents him a coconut and some sweets. He in return blessed and wished her.

Team SI wishes all our surrogates a “Happy Bhai Dhooj

                               Diwali Lunch

On Friday the 21st October,2011 Dr. Yash & Dr. Sudhir took us out for diwali lunch. We all went at Powai at Red Olives for Diwali lunch and enjoyed it a lot. The food was delicious. We ate different types of chicken, fish and paneer (cottage cheese) starters followed by Chicken peanut curry, manglorian prawns curry, mrich ka murga (spicy chicken), and dum biryani. Then for dessert, we ordered brownie with ice-cream, kulfi, kulfi falooda, strawberry ice-cream and cheese cake. We really enjoyed it a lot, we cracked jokes and laughed a lot and had a good time together. We are thankful to Dr. Yash & Dr. Sudhir who give us such an opportunity to enjoy and have fun.

                       Diwali celebration at SI

The name 'Diwali' is from the Sanskrit word 'dipavali', which means 'row of lamps'. Diwali is the festival is to mark the return of Rama to Ayodhya after his victory over Ravana, an epic story of Ramayana. To celebrate Ram’s victory, lamps are lit in every house to banish the dark and welcome in good luck and good fortune. Diwali is a festival of light, joy, prosperity and good luck which usually falls sometime at the end of October or in the beginning of November.
Diwali is a festival which we all long for every year and Team SI works in a very professional manner and is the best when it comes to fun and any celebrations.
We all decided to give a personal touch to this diwali and decided to prepare handmade greeting cards, so we bought handmade papers with different colors. We gave the material to our surrogates. They were very excited to prepare special handmade cards as these cards are for their different doctors whom they routinely meet for their follow up; they have developed a sweet bond with them as well.
We were very apprehensive how the cards will look like, but when they prepared it, we were amazed. They did a fantastic job!!!! So finally the cards were ready! Now we wanted to search a gift and finally selected a tray with 2 round boxes manually decorated by golden beads. The boxes were filled by chocolates and wrapped the gifts with colorful marble paper and tied by a satin ribbon. After wrapping it looked the perfect gift. It was then distributed with the special greeting card to all our associates.
Now, at the moment, we all are getting decorations for our office and SI hospital. Boys are getting beautiful lanterns and ribbons to decorate the walls and ceilings while girls are busy in getting different color rangolis to put in front of the office door. The preparations are still going on and we are just enjoying it.
On Diwali days, we all have planned to wear new clothes, probably Indian ethic wear, salwar suit or saree and boys will wear kurta or chudidar. We will hold a small prayer or puja in our office to honor the Lord Ganesha, the god of wisdom and good luck, the one who removes all obstacles from life; and we will also worship Lakshmi, the goddess of prosperity and good fortune. Lights will be left burning all night, so that good luck and good fortune may feel welcome and enter.
