Applause to Australian High Commission in India

The recent article put up by Australian Government in India is highly appreciated. If not mistaken, Australia would be the first country, who is extending support to all the Intended Parents of their country by providing them all necessary documents and making notes of the amendments in Indian Surrogacy Regulations.

It is also interesting to note that they have clearly mentioned about how surrogacy is complex process and subject to change.

Below is the link for the letter:

Letter

The Indian Government requires that a medical visa application be accompanied by a letter from the foreign government stating that the foreign country recognises surrogacy and that the child will be permitted entry into their country as a biological child of the couple commissioning surrogacy.

Here is the link for complete information for the same.

Update: Single Parents, Frozen Embryos and Surrogacy

Both the doctors were fortunate to spend some quality time with Dr. R.S.Sharma (Deputy Director General- ICMR). It was extremely kind of Dr. R.S.Sharma to give half hour of his precious time and discuss the present difficulties of surrogacy in India with them and way forward.

This blog post is to give further update on the above topics.

1) Single Parents : It is believed that the Indian Government (ICMR/MHA and other relevant authorities) are working on editing the draft to allow single parents to undergo surrogacy in India. In India gay marriages are illegal and thus gay couples who are married will not be able to go ahead with surrogacy In India.

We are not yet sure how they will testify gay couples marital status. For e.g. will it be a marriage certificate or the status in passport or some other documents.

This indicates that there is a high probability that single men will be allowed to undergo surrogacy in India sooner or later. On the lighter front, probably gay couples who are planning to getting married should postpone their plans..... :)

2) Frozen Embryos: As per the discussion, they are also working on regulations to allow couples / single parents / Gay couples to ship their frozen embryos outside India for embryo transfers. There are certain permissions to be taken before shipping the embryos but is a feasible option.

We suggest single men who are planning to ship their embryos to Thailand or any other country should probably wait till the above point is addressed. We believe it should take approximately 2 to 3 months before you get approval to ship the embryo and do the embryo transfer in other country, which is arguably the same time before we could get the confirmation that single parent can do surrogacy in India.

We want our readers to note that the above discussed points are yet to be finalised.

The positive news is that all the authorities especially ICMR seems to be positive for surrogacy. Having said that, this doesn’t mean SurrogacyIndia will start embryo transfers for single parents yet now but we are confident it will be done sooner than later.

We request all our readers to keep faith in us. We shall keep you updated as and when we get information.

Get-together

The sun is shining and the mercury levels are soaring, the summer is here and there is no escape from it. The best way to beat the heat is to relax and have fun.

So, without giving second thoughts Dr. Sudhir and Dr. Yashodhara have organised lunch on 26th April, 2013 to all our couples those who were in Mumbai and away from their near and dear ones.

The venue was Spaghetti Kitchen at Powai. The ambience was very peaceful with beautiful painting of flowers. The food was mouth watering, especially Italian.

It was good to see that all the couples turned up for this day. All were in casual dress.

They were happy to be introduced to each other. There were few couples with their babies, so there was double enjoyment. Everyone was chit chatting with each other and having fun.

Thus, all the couples with the doctors and SI Team had fun.

Meet Our SI Team

SI Organogram

SI is growing and arguably the largest Surrogacy Facilitating Team.

There have been times when Intended Parents were not sure whom they were coordinating with. Team SI has created this organogram where you would know teams names, their specific role, department and email ID.

Clicking on the box should enable you to send an email directly to the respective Team member.

Thanks to one of our parents who shared this concern, so that we could create an organogram.

New law in Australia for a child born through surrogacy

Australian court order
Where you have an Australian court order granting you parental responsibility for your child, you may lodge without the consent of the surrogate mother. However, you should note that even where an Australian court order recognises the parental responsibility of the intended parents, the surrogate mother may still retain her parental responsibility. You will be contacted if further information is required to process the application.

Please read futher information on this link- http://www.dfat.gov....arental-consent

UPDATE: MHA FRRO

Few clients whose visas were getting processed expressed their disappointment with the FRRO for the delay inspite of receiving the passport.

We may be wrong, but some consulates too met the FRRO.

This led to an internal meeting and Mr. V. Kumar, Section Head has assured that the documents will be verified and clearance will be given in 48 hours time frame. This means all parents should get their baby's exit visa and clearance in 3-4 working days.

The charges will be the same like before at the FRRO office.  I guess, finally some good news!
